Former Oldsmar Christian basketball player Herman Williams passed away earlier this week in his hometown of Marianna, Florida, according to multiple news reports.
His sudden death came a day after he turned 19 years old.
According to an article in the Dothan (AL) Eagle, Williams collapsed while playing a pickup game at a local church court on Monday, June 20, and never regained consciousness.
The cause of death is unknown and is under investigation by the Marianna Police Department, according to the article.
Williams, a 6’2” shooting guard, was known for his scoring, rebounding and being a vocal leader on the court, according to former teammates and coaches.
He had committed to play at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette next fall.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with @Cajunsbasketball signee Herman Williams who passed away earlier today in Florida,” the ULL Twitter account posted on Monday.
“Heaven gained a great player & a greater person last night,” Matt Anderson, Williams’ former coach at Marianna High, tweeted on Tuesday.
“Rest in peace Herman Williams. You will be greatly missed and wonderfully remembered.”
Williams only played for a few months at OCS during his senior year before returning to his hometown high school, according to reports.
Oldsmar Connect attempted to contact former Eagles head coach Jordan Fair, who left the school in April for a graduate assistant position under Rick Pitino at the University of Louisville in April, for comment, but we were unsuccessful.

During Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, Oldsmar Mayor Doug Bevis expressed his condolences over the talented teen’s tragic passing.
“One of the Oldsmar Christian players, Herman Williams, passed away unexpectedly yesterday at his home,” the mayor said at the start of the meeting.
“A real loss for the community, and a tragic loss for Oldsmar Christian as well.”
“Such a young individual that had a lot of potential…he probably had a great future ahead of him.”
