Last year, the City of Oldsmar started a new holiday tradition by hosting a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in front of City Hall on State Street.
In year two, officials have kicked the festivities up a notch.
The hourlong program begins at 5:30 p.m., with a speech by Mayor Doug Bevis, and will be followed by songs from the Oldsmar Elementary choir, an appearance by jolly old St. Nick as well as the introduction of the citizens of the year, John and Joyce Sanders.
During a City Council meeting last month, Mayor Bevis mentioned that the City hopes to increase attendance at the ceremony every year.

“Our tree lighting ceremony…will be Tuesday, December 1st, outside of City Hall, and we actually had a switch made that actually turns the tree on, so it’s kind of fun,” Bevis said during his Mayor’s Minute on November 17.
“Last year we had 40 or 50 people from the community,” he added. “It’s kind of a neat tradition we started last year, so bring the kids out.”
Officials note that parking for the event is available along State Street in either of the parking lots adjacent to City Hall, or across the street in the parking lot next to the City Council Chambers.
The roads will not be closed for the event.
