Oldsmar will host the Sunshine State BMX Association’s Florida Cup Friday, Jan. 12 through Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018 at the city’s Supercross track, located in the Oldsmar Sports Complex at 4120 Tampa Road.
The event will feature two qualifying rounds for the state championship, which will be held May 4-5 in St. Cloud.
While the Oldsmar City Council recently voted against hosting a prestigious BMX World Cup qualifier at the $2 million track, the Florida Cup, plus the upcoming USA BMX Gator Nationals, will provide excellent use of the world-class facility, according to officials.
“At the park now we have two big BMX events scheduled this year—the SSA Florida Cup and Gator Nationals in February,” Leisure Services Director Felicia Donnelly told Oldsmar Connect.
“So, we’re increasing the amount of events and visitors to the track while continuing to grow our local ridership base.”

Donnelly said the SSA Florida Cup event, which will feature skills clinics, merchandise vendors and daily practice runs and races, is expected to bring hundreds of riders, plus their families and fans, to the city.
“We’re expecting 500 riders per day,” she said.
“So, the three-day event should provide a great economic boost for the City of Oldsmar.”

Oldsmar Mayor Doug Bevis, a proponent of the new track who voted against hosting the costly World Cup, said he is excited to have one of the state’s biggest BMX events at the expanding Oldsmar Sports Complex.
“We have built a long term great relationship with USA BMX and the Gator Nationals, and we’re excited to have the chance to build another relationship with SSA and the first time Florida Cup event this month at the Oldsmar Sports Complex,” Bevis said earlier this week.
