Oldsmar Council approves centennial concert on October 1, 2016
The City of Oldsmar will end its yearlong centennial celebration in style, with a star-studded rock concert at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday, October 1, 2016.
The City of Oldsmar will end its yearlong centennial celebration in style, with a star-studded rock concert at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday, October 1, 2016, from 5-10 p.m., after the City Council approved a contract with a local promoter on Tuesday.
The $50,000 concert, which is being produced by New Port Richey based Razor Entertainment, will feature performances by members of the legendary rock groups Journey, Blue Oyster Cult, John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band and Kansas, all backed by popular local band Stormbringer.
Prior to receiving unanimous approval for the agreement, Razor Entertainment representative Michael Vandiver outlined the tentative schedule of the show.
“What we have scheduled is between 50-55 minutes for each of the acts, with a break of 15-20 minutes in between for intermission,” he said.
Vandiver then handed out a list containing the order of appearance for each of the acts, which is as follows:
- 5PM—Doors open
- Stormbringer plays for 30 minutes (the band will also back all the other acts)
- Robbie Steinhardt, former violinist/singer for Kansas
- John Cafferty and Michael Antunes of John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band
- Buck Dharma, lead singer/guitarist for Blue Oyster Cult
- 9PM—Steve Augeri, former lead singer for journey
Vandiver, who has extensive experience promoting these types of mega concerts, said he and city officials are working hard to make this one is a success.
“Our job at Razor Entertainment is not just to come out and produce a show,” he said.
“I’m working closely with Councilman Saracki on making sure that we maximize the return to the city and give you guys the best opportunity to maximize your investment.”
The concert marks the culmination of a slew of fancy dinners and classic car shows, (postponed) parades and other events that have been sprinkled throughout the 2016 special events calendar during the city’s yearlong celebration of its 100th birthday, all of which have been organized by the Oldsmar100 committee.
Council member Dan Saracki, who has served as the committee’s chair for the past two years, said he is looking forward to the final centennial event, and he thanked his fellow council members and city staff for helping him pull this mega-concert together.
“I’m really excited about the centennial concert, and I just want thank Jerry, Gabby, Bruce, Doug, Tom and Eric for your support on this,” Saracki said during his council comments on Tuesday.
“I think we’re going to have a fun time, and we’re going to bring some people together in the city.”
Ticket prices for the concert have not been set yet, but Saracki previously said that roughly 2,800-3,000 general admission seats would be available in the $25-30 range, with box seats available at a higher price.
