2017 Oldsmar Holiday Events: What You Need to Know

The holidays in Oldsmar are always a special time of year.

From toy drives and mayor breakfasts to luncheons and annual holiday-themed events, the city certainly captures the spirt of the season, despite a persistent lack of snow!

In 2017 Oldsmar’s holiday special event schedule features traditional favorites like the tree lighting ceremony and Christmas Wonderland, plus the annual open house at the fire department as well as a special, new event. Oh and don’t forget to register the kids to receive a letter from Santa!

Here’s a look at Oldsmar’s 2017 Holiday Special Events schedule, and what you need to know if you plan on go-go-going!

Mayor’s Breakfast

  • When: Friday, Dec. 1, 7:30-9:00 a.m.
  • Where: Safety Harbor Resort and Spa, 105 N. Bayshore Dr.
  • Details: The annual informal morning meeting of the mayors from Safety Harbor and Oldsmar is always a fun-filled affair that also supports a great cause—providing for needy families during the holidays. Safety Harbor Mayor Joe Ayoub and Oldsmar’s Doug Bevis will don aprons, pour coffee and collect tips for charity, while attendees can bid on beautifully decorated trees and other items while enjoying their meal at the Spa.

Christmas Wonderland

  • When: Friday, Dec. 1, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
  • Where: R.E. Olds Park, 107 Shore Dr. W.
  • Details: This annual festival of lights, sounds and tastes has quickly grown into a full-blown community phenomenon, as patrons have packed R.E. Olds Park in recent years to listen to live music, ride ponies, sing Christmas carols and watch Miss Suda’s Dancers perform their spectacular holiday pageant. Oh yeah, and slide down the snow ramp and take pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Claus!

36th annual Armadillo Run

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 2 (registration starts at 5:30 a.m.)
  • Where: 400 St. Petersburg Dr.
  • Details: Another annual holiday favorite, this three-race event is hosted by the local Rotary Club and features a 10K, 5K and 1-mile wellness Walk/Run. Great fun and exercise for people of all ages. Awards will be presented to the top three in each age group for the 10K and 5K, and the proceeds go towards local charities in the community.
  • Cost: 10K: $30 in advance/$35 day of race; 5K: $30/$35; 1-Mile walk/run: $10/$15

Annual tree lighting ceremony

  • When: Tuesday, Dec. 5, 6:00
  • Where: Oldsmar City Hall, 100 State St. W.
  • Details: The city’s annual tree lighting ceremony continues to grow in popularity, as residents and visitors of all ages pack the area in front of City Hall to listen to caroling kids and watch officials light the enormous Christmas tree. This new tradition is quickly becoming a favorite and is guaranteed to leave you humming holiday classics for the rest of the month!

Toys for Tots Drive

  • When: Now through Friday, Dec. 8
  • Details: Oldsmar Fire Rescue is accepting small, unwrapped NEW gifts for children ages newborn to 14 years old from now through Friday, Dec. 8. Gifts can be dropped off at the fire station at 225 Pine Ave. or Oldsmar City Hall, 100 State St. W.

 Oldsmar Fire Rescue Christmas Open House

  • When: Friday, Dec. 8, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
  • Where: Oldsmar Fire Station, 225 Pine Ave.
  • Details: Join Oldsmar Fire Rescue at the annual open house. Activities include photos with Santa, ornament making and photos with Old St. Nick, plus special appearances by superheroes and princesses!

Breakfast with Santa

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 9, 9:00-10:00 a.m.
  • Where: Chic-fil-A, 3740 Tampa Rd.
  • Details: What could be better than breakfast with Santa?! Each ticket includes a kid’s meal, a photo with Santa and a gift from the king of the North Pole. Tickets are available for cash only, at the door, and adults must purchase either an admission or a meal ticket.
  • Cost: Admission: $4.00; meal: $8.00 (discounted tickets available at Cypress Forest Rec Center, Oldsmar Senior Center or the Municipal Services Center)

Holly Jolly Trolley Tour

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 9, 1:00-2:15 pm., 2:30-3:45 p.m.
  • Where: 100 State St. W
  • Details: Join the Oldsmar Historical Society for a unique Jolley Trolley tour of Oldsmar, featuring narrative tours, refreshments and a chance drawing. Two tour times are available, and all the proceeds will go towards the OHS.

 Senior Luncheon

  • When: Wednesday, Dec. 13, noon-1:00 p.m.
  • Where: Cypress Forest Rec Center, 650 Pine Ave. N.
  • Details: Every year the city hosts a holiday luncheon to celebrate with Oldsmar seniors. The lunch comes complete with photos with Santa, holiday music and gift raffles.

Holiday Parents Night Out

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 16, 6:00-11:00 p.m.

  • Details: Parents can enjoy a night of shopping or even a date night as the kids ages 5-12 enjoy a night of organized fun with a pizza dinner.

Santa Claus’ Mailbox

  • When: Now through Monday, Dec. 18
  • Where: City Hall, 100 State St. W
  • Details: Children can write letters and wish lists to Santa and drop them off in the bid red mailbox outside of City Hall. Don;t forget to have the kiddies include their name and address so St. Nick can write back!

Santa’s Mailbox will be set up in front of Oldsmar City Hall until Monday, Dec. 18.
