Organizers are preparing to host the 2017 Goals for a Cause fundraiser for the 1 Voice Foundation starting this weekend, and it promises to be one of the biggest in the event’s eight-year history.
The fun kicks off with the popular celebrity server event at Jack Willies in Oldsmar on Saturday, Nov. 18, from noon to 4:00 p.m., to be followed by the annual Senior Hockey Tournament Nov. 24-26 at the Tampa Bay Skating Academy.
According to officials, Goals For a Cause Florida, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting other local nonprofits, has raised more than $86,000 since being founded in 2010, a fact that is not lost on Oldsmar Mayor—and celebrity server extraordinaire—Doug Bevis.
“Goals for a Cause is actually an organization that actually holds an event to raise money to give it away to another charity,” Bevis said during the Nov. 7 City Council meeting.
“So it’s a great fundraiser event for a great cause.”
The hockey tournament may be the main draw of Goals for a Cause, but there’s no doubt the celebrity server event, which this year will feature former Lightning player Jassen Cullimore and former Buc and Gator Earnest Graham, has become a favorite of attendees and participants.
“This annual event continues to grow each year,” Sandie Grimes, the event chairman and vice-president of Goals for a Cause, said via email.
“Anybody who loves sports, unique experiences and traveling will certainly be excited about the opportunity for a change to take home something.”
According to Oldsmar’s marketing specialist Debb Pauley, who helps coordinate the event, some of the silent auction items will include:
- A 3-night stay at a new Indian Rocks Beach condo
- A 4-night stay at a North Carolina home
- Tampa Bay Lightning superstar and current top NHL scorer Nikita Kucherov autographed jersey
- Rookie NHL Goalie Tony Esposito autographed jersey
- A golf Foursome in the What the Buc Golf Tournament
- A Guided Boat in the Earnest Graham Inshore Slam (For 3 anglers, includes boat, captain, poles, bait, breakfast and awards lunch)
In addition to the sports legends, other celebrity servers scheduled to participate include Mayor Bevis, Oldsmar City Council member Eric Seidel and City Manager Al Braithwaite and Pinellas County Commissioner Dave Eggers.
Jack Willies is located at 1013 St. Petersburg Drive W at the Oldsmar Marina.
Pauley said a $20 ticket donation includes a burger, fries, beer or soda and 2 raffle tickets. The event will also feature raffles and prizes.
Tickets will be sold at the door, or you can purchase e-tickets now at goals4acause.org/1voice.
Goals for a Cause officials are equally excited about FOX 13 News personality Charley Belcher’s contribution to their efforts to support the 1 Voice Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping children with cancer and their families.
Belcher will host his annual ‘Charley Belcher Skate’ on Monday, Nov. 20, at TBSA, located at 255 Forest Lakes Boulevard, and the event will be televised live during his morning show segment, “Charley’s World.”
“Since 2013, Goals for a Cause has been honored to host Charley’s World as the lead-in promotion for our Tournament Weekend,” Neil Armstrong, Goals for a Cause Board Chairman and Interim President, stated.
“His continued support on the air and through his social media have been vital towards the success of our annual fundraising efforts to assist local Tampa Bay charities.”
